A good home arcade is a room system, not a pile of cabinets. Space, electrical service, delivery routes, heat, seating, support and household preferences determine whether a machine remains enjoyable after the novelty wears off.
1. Secure doors
Plan pickup and final placement together. Know what can safely be removed for transport, where the center of gravity sits and whether a hand truck can actually make every turn from the vehicle to the room.
2. Protect monitor
Match the display to the hardware and games you actually want to run. Check aspect ratio, native resolution, input type, latency and physical mounting; with CRT hardware, treat internal service as high-voltage work unless you are trained for it.
3. Remove loose parts
Measure the delivery route with the machine in its shipping or assembled configuration, not just the cabinet body. Record door width, tight turns, steps, elevator openings and the final approach so the machine does not arrive before you discover the impossible corner.
4. Crate and pallet
Make crate and pallet part of the project checklist. A few minutes of measurement and testing here can prevent the most common outcome in home arcades: a machine that technically works but never quite fits the room or the games you wanted.
5. Document condition
Test the exact machine from a cold start and play the controls and games you are buying it for. Inspect cabinet edges, screen, audio, coin door, power supply and internal wiring, and keep the packing until the return or freight-damage window has passed.
6. Insure freight
Separate purchase price from ownership cost. Add delivery, likely wear items, adapters, controls, storage and any PC or display upgrades, then compare that number with a machine that arrives ready to play.
